Sunday Movie Questions

How often do you watch a movie?

At least three times a month. Sometimes more, rarely less.

What movie genre are you particularly fond of?

Romance.

What was the last movie that you’ve watched and liked?

Knives Out.

What was the last movie that you’ve watched and hated?

Wala naman. I didn’t like Cats, but I wouldn’t say I hated it.

What is your most favorite movie of all time?

My go-to answer used to be Christopher Nolan’s Memento. I haven’t watched it in a long time though, so I’m not sure if I will still like it today.

Your most favorite guilty pleasure movie?

Ben Affleck’s Argo, maybe?

What movie/movies have you watched a million times already?

500 Days of Summer.

Are you the type who watches a movie on its first day of showing?

Not at all. I think the only movie that I watched on opening day was Avengers: Endgame.

Do you use Fandango or do you pre-book movie tickets?

I just go straight to the movie house and fall in line for the tickets.

Movie house, Blu-ray, or download?

Not Blu-ray.

How often do you go to a movie house to watch a movie?

At least once a month.

What are the movies that made you cry?

Anak, 50/50, Alone/Together, etc.

Do you watch foreign films?

I’m not American so technically Hollywood films are foreign to me. I also watch films that are not in English, yes.

What are your favorite foreign films?

Parasite is the obvious choice, ‘no? Lelz. I also liked Goodbye, Dragon Inn and Infernal Affairs, etc.

Who are your favorite directors?

Honestly, I don’t think I even understand what qualifies as good direction. What makes a good director ba? What qualities do I look for? What details do I pay attention to?

‘Di ko alam e, ergo I don’t have a quote-unquote favorite director.

Are you particular with movie scores and soundtracks?

Soundtracks, yes — I do notice the songs especially when they’re good and well-placed (i.e. the right parts play at the right momentz). Movie scores, kebs lang. Gan’un e.

What movie soundtrack can be found in your iPod Spotify?

I have songs from 500 Days of Summer, Saving Sally, Ang Manananggal sa Unit 23B, etc.

Have you ever watched a movie alone on a movie house?

All the time! Even when I was back home, I watched movies alone all the time.

The thing about watching movies with other people — it requires planning, man! You have to pick a film that all of you are interested in watching and you have to organize the time around everyone’s schedules. Daming cheche-bureche, so I’d rather go to the cinema by myself instead of organizing the quote-unquote event.

To be fair naman, I never say no when other people ask me to watch movies with them. I’m always down as long as I’m not in charge of the planning hehe.

Is there any movie that has changed your perspective in life?

Sa Ngalan ng Tubo. If any of you happen to watch this film and you’re not quite sure what to make of it, just shoot me message. Anytime, just shoot me message.

Your favorite comic book movie?

X-Men.

(Sorta kinda not related, but I’m lowkey excited for FX’s Y: The Last Man. I don’t read a lot of comic books but Y is probably the closest I have to a favorite comic book series.)

DC or Marvel movies?

I’m not as invested in this debate as most people are, sorry.

Although, hmm — I think I’m gonna ahead and say Marvel. Gal Gadot’s politics turn me off big time. I haven’t seen Wonder Woman and I have no plans of seeing it or any of its sequels at all. (I know I’m probably missing out on a legitimately fun movie experience but, ugh, they should’ve picked a different actor.)

Also, have you seen the trailers for Birds of Prey? Meh.

What are the movies in the top 10 in IMDb that you have watched?

All of them, haha.

Do you read movie critic reviews before watching a film?

Yes.

What is the best movie adapted from a book?

Bridge to Terabithia was pretty good. Not sure if it’s the best, but to me it was good.

Do you watch the movie before reading the book or vice versa?

I always try to read the book first.

What is your most favorite comedy movie?

Pee Mak, maybe? But it’s been years since I last watched it.

Drama movie?

Wala akong maisip!

Western movie?

N/A din.

Romantic comedy film?

Ah, good question. I think I’d rather answer this on a separate post, haha.

One thing I’d like to mention though — the “comedy” in “romantic comedy” doesn’t have to mean “funny.” The word has Greek origins, and back in the olden days “comedy” was simply a type of stage play (narrative) that ends on a happy note. Happy ending equals comedy, basically.

But films don’t have to conform to genre conventions, ya? All I’m saying is, a romantic comedy doesn’t necessarily have to make the audience laugh.

Horror film?

Otlum, charot.

So alam n’yo ba na ang English translation ng Otlum sa letterboxd ay Koops? Nakakainez! Hahahaha.

Sports movies?

Wala e.

Sci-fi?

Sunshine siguro.

Action movies?

Does X-Men count? Haha.

War movies?

Wala din e.

Who is your most favorite movie couple?

I can’t think of a favorite right now.

Any movie character you can relate to?

Relate-relate ka ‘dyan. Charot.

If you were to watch only five movies for the rest of your life, what would the movies be?

Ang hirap! Sa ngayon ito naiisip ko: Magic Temple, 500 Days of Summer, Apocalypse Child, X-Men, Don’t Give Up on Us.

Your least favorite movie of all time?

Probably those that I’ve already completely forgotten about.

Have you ever watched a movie based on the lead actor/actress only?

Of course! Andy Lau? Takeshi Kaneshiro? Girl!

What movie you expected and wanted to be good but failed you?

Isa Pa With Feelings, but it wasn’t bad naman; I just didn’t like it as much as most people did.

Favorite movie character of all time?

Hmm.

Favorite movie villain?

Hmm.

Any movie sequel that you’re still waiting to see?

Parang wala.

Ever made a movie review?

Why, yes, of course!

Star Wars or Star Trek?

Five years ago I would’ve pretended that I liked either of these. Now I’m just, meh, keri lang.

Right now, think of any movie, what comes first?

LSS.

Favorite movie lines?

Off the top of my head I can still recall these lines from The History Boys:

Yes, it’s only a phase, but who says I want it to pass? But the pain! The pain!

I don’t remember what it’s about though, haha.

TV series, books, computer games, or movies in order of interest?

Books & movies > TV series > computer games.

Lastly, if your life story is to be made into a movie, who would you like to portray you? Who should be directing it and what would be the title?

I want Shu Qi to play me but she has to learn how to speak fluent Filipino. No director or title yet, basta si Shu Qi ‘yung ako. (Kapal ko rin e, ‘no?)

I found this tag on Getting Through Anxiety. You may answer the questions too, if you like!

Have a great week ahead, everyone! 🙂

Medyo magka-genre naman sila ng X-Men? Hahaha.
