Cleansing

I have a Bio exam tomorrow and per usual, I am doing everything I can to put off studying. I’m sorry Bio — I never meant to make you cry but tonight, I’m cleaning up my playlist.

My iTunes has long been clogged with songs that I downloaded but never really listened to. I only acquired most of them because friends and other cool peeps had vouched for their awesomeness. But apparently (unfortunately?), I ain’t cool enough to appreciate them. I just deleted most of Anberlin’s albums, most of Blur and all of Deftones.

Of course there are songs that I just can’t get rid of even though their play counts remain nil up to this day. Some of The Beatles’ songs, for example, because who doesn’t want all things Beatles in their playlist? And then there’s stuff by Joni Mitchell and Gloc 9. And also Dixie Chicks — I got no shame bro, I really dig them.

In place of those that I dragged into the trash bin, I added a few albums that may turn out to be forever favorites (like Warpaint’s The Fool and Dum Dum Girls’ I Will Be) or may not be even played in their entirety at all.

1. Chvrches – The Bones of What You Believe

From Wikipedia

I’m giving Chvrches a chance because of We Sink. I actually think Chvrches is particularly terrible at doing covers. Listen to their take on Arctic Monkey’s Do I Wanna Know and Lorde’s Team. Sintunado kaya. Or am I just too uncool to appreciate the edginess? But I did like We Sink — an original, I suppose — so why not chocnut, patulan ang album.

2. Outkast – Stankonia

From Wikipedia

I just want B.O.B to finally be in my playlist.

3. Andrew Jackson Jihad – Knife Man

From Wikipedia

Because band name. Andrew Jackson Jihad? Ay waw.

4. Crywank Discrography

From Crywank’s Bandcamp

First, they’re called Crywank. Second, they do sadcore — a subgenre so fitting for the coming winter. Third, their song titles are the shit: “Song for A Guilty Sadist,” “The Only Way I Could Save Myself Now Is If I Start Firebombing,” and “If I Were You I’d Be Throwing Up” among others. Nice ‘no?

4. Ramshackle Glory – Live the dream!

From Last.fm

Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist. Keep on loving, keep on fighting. And hold on, and hold on — hold on for your life.

5. Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape

From Wikipedia

I deleted Love,Music,Angel,Baby then got this one instead. 4 in the Morning is a good break up anthem, no?

6. David Bowie – Let’s Dance

From Wikipedia

Because I loved Frances Ha and Modern Love.
