It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
I’ve been busy, is all. I’ve started going to the bouldering gym twice a week, and I’ve managed to go on two long weekend trips last summer. It’s nice because now I actually have friends to go out with. I can finally do all those “normal” adult things like going out for brunch, riding a scooter along the river trails, and visiting tourist attractions both in and out of town. It’s been dope!
Summer flew by so quickly that it felt as if some celestial power continuously pressed the accelerator, and now the engine is tired and yearning for a long break. The weather is starting to get colder too — perfect timing to slow down and, well, chill.
Now that life has gotten slower, a realization has hit me: my expenses have gone a lot higher these last few months. All that traveling, eating out, and trying new stuff, it adds up, you know?
This week I started tracking my spending on paper to try and rein in my spending. I even color-coded it: green for days with zero spending, blue for expenses on necessities, and red for expenses on stuff I could do without. I’m not sure how helpful this little activity is going to be, but methinks it’s a good step to stop, look and listen before I make unnecessary purchases.

My no-spend days are days when I either go to the bouldering gym after work — I only count the monthly fee on the day the amount is taken off my account — or read a book. I started reading again a couple of weeks ago. I picked up Liu Cixin’s Three Body Problem, and man, what a book. Some people say that Liu Cixin can’t write for shit, like he prioritizes ideas over plot and character development. And to that, I say pfft, I don’t give a shit. As long as the idea is intriguing, I’m hooked. I guess I’m just the target audience for this book—I am knowledgeable enough to not wince at concepts like radio astronomy and haptic signals, but I am not smart enough to question anything that’s one degree deeper than basic physics.
Other than reading, I have also started blogging again. I don’t have a rigid schedule for posting regularly in the coming months, but hopefully, you’ll hear more from me. I started following my co-worker’s blog too, and then I stumbled upon this May Go Home – Still In blog by a Cuba-educated Filipino doctor. Good, inspiring stuff.
I’ve been catching up on my Reader too, so if you notice any unusual traffic on your site, that is likely me snooping and wondering what you’ve been up to. Heyo!
