I quit my job. I decided to accept an offer from a non-consulting company, which is a huge leap considering that I have only worked as a consultant since I graduated. Bye, timesheets. Bye, billable targets.

I also moved apartments. Bye, tiny kitchen. Bye, shared washing machines.

Oh, and I finally visited New York! We spent one night in Queens and four days in Manhattan. Although we didn’t get up close to the Brooklyn Bridge, we caught a glimpse of it during our ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty. We rode the subway numerous times, but after a creep tried to grab our phones, I configured Google Maps to prioritize bus routes instead. We hit most of the major tourist attractions: the Met, MoMA, Museum of Natural History, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and more. It was a fun trip. I would love to come back, although I would likely try to blend in better next time to avoid being a fodder for snatchers.

New job. New office. I get my own office this time and not just a cubicle. The room is windowless though, but it’s fine. I actually don’t mind a cubicle either. I’m not picky about these things.

The job itself is quite different from what I used to do. I was given a major task my first week, and it felt like trying to stand on a floor covered in grease. I did not know what I was doing. My boss was nice enough to remind me that there’s no rush. Take time to understand things. Learn. Ask questions. Like I even know what questions to ask.

The weather has been blah. Cold, rainy days make it difficult to spend some time outdoors, especially if one is generally indoorsy. The new apartment has lots of windows though, so my plants still get some light.

Not a lot going on this month. Mostly just trying to get the new apartment sorted and browsing Etsy for knick-knacks and decor. I have so much stuff. I might get rid of some of them one day. I mean I should. Yea, I definitely should.

I got a new bike! I sold my old one—a cheap clunker from Canadian Tire—and upgraded to a sleek hybrid from a proper bike shop. I had considered getting a road bike, but the good ones were way out of my budget. I’d had my eye on the teal Specialized Sirrus 3.0 since last fall, and when I saw it was still available this spring, I knew I had to get it.

One Saturday, S and I spent over three hours biking around the river pathways. That same night, L and I went to see Inside Out 2. By the time the film ended, my legs felt like rubber, and I could feel jolts of pain shooting through my thighs as I made my way down the dimly lit aisles. We had to stop by the pharmacy on the way home to pick up some pain meds. It reminded me of the time I went on a nine-hour hike. Am I back in my Type 2 fun era? Hmm.

Just when June was about to end, my car got broken into. One of the windows was smashed, and the compartments were ransacked. Fortunately, nothing important was taken since I generally don’t keep valuables in the car. The most expensive items were probably my sunglasses and the dashcam, but even those were left behind. L theorizes that the perpetrator was just a junkie looking for quick cash. Yea, probably.
