you sing the sweetest tune

My life has been crazy depressing lately and, on most days, I feel like the only thing that’s keeping me afloat is good music. I know that that sounds too immaterial and too romantic, but it’s true. Sort of.

Whenever I feel like I’m about to hit another downward spiral, I keep my screws intact by listening to good music. (I also started praying recently, but that’s a completely different story.) Music, as in all forms of media, has helped many of us cope. To some extent, it has also kept us from banding together and revolting against this crazy, stupid, oppressive world.

Music is a drug, man. It’s a damn beautiful distraction.

1. One of my go-to tunes recently is Yumi Zouma’s “Powder Blue/Cascine Park.” I feel a little better when I listen to it with my eyes closed.

2. Pop at Summer’s “Summer Night” reminds me of the beach, or of road trips to the beach, or of the good old days when I could to the beach just ’cause.

3. Kate Bollinger’s “Queen to Nobody” is where I got the title of this blog post.

4. One of my favorite covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” is chloe moriondo’s.

5. I fell in love with Rhye’s “Open” the first time I listened to it.

6. Do you ever click on songs simply because the title caught your attention? fanclubwallet’s “Car Crash in G Minor” caught my attention.

7. Soft Glas’ “Perks of Being a Sunflower” also caught my attention.

8. Cuco’s “Lo Que Siento” is the chill pill.

9. The White Stripes’ “We’re Going to be Friends” feels like a warm shower after a cold, stressful day.

10. girl in red’s “watch you sleep.”

I agree. I also use music as a form of self-therapy. My go-to recently is the song Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish. I loudly sing to that kapag natatangahan ako sa ilang tao, focusing on specific parts of its lyrics. Try it. 😅
